Liz and Greg Shockley are happy to be celebrating another year of success with Sage Catering. They have over 25 years of culinary experience between them. Restaurants, hotels, private homes, and national television are a few of the places that they have collectively worked.
After many years of working in restaurants, including Le Bec Fin, one of the elite 5 Star and 5 Diamond restaurants in the country, located in Philadelphia, Liz was a private chef for over 12 years. Greg worked in several Five Star hotels in Florida before returning to the Philadelphia area. Greg has a culinary degree from the Pennsylvania Institute of Culinary Arts, located in Pittsburgh, as well as business and marketing degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
Both Greg and Liz are very active, everything from running marathon's to a pretty serious Yoga practice. They love to travel and spend time with Greg's 14 year old son, James, who also has a natural flair for cooking. But James' real passion is baseball; he is a natural born athlete. Baxter and Kiki complete the Shockley family clan.
Their love for food and entertaining friends has brought them to this chapter in their lives, Sage Catering, a labor of love for Liz and Greg. With the support of family, friends, clients, old and new, and an amazing team, they are looking forward to great things ahead.
Darby Venema is our event planner extraordinaire. Staff and clients adore her, and she has a sixth sense, knowing what is needed before the rest of us do.. Darby grew up in Souderton and is a graduate of Syracuse University with a dual-BA degree in Television and Film production AND philosophy. She worked for QVC for four years in their broadcasting department and also has ten years of experience in the food service industry. Darby is an avid mountain biker/trail runner/hiker and Yogi, and she brings to us her experience as well as her always present smile. She brings perfect balance to Sage Catering, and we are very happy to have her.
Pat Burns is our true Sage. A graduate of the University of Scranton, Pat has been in the catering business for many years. His ability to organize event's is truly unsurpassed, his insight of clients needs is unmatched, and his strength and dependability is extraordinary. And his knowledge of music is unstumpable! Pat is the glue that holds Sage together, and we are very grateful, and lucky to have him on our team.
Harley Blaisdell is an amazing addition to Sage Catering. His talent, his energy and his cool demeanor are the perfect balance. His passion for cooking began at an early age, always creating new recipes for family gatherings and friends. Harley is a 1997 graduation of the Philadelphia Restaurant School. He has worked in many restaurants and hotels, as well as a private chef and a food stylist. Although Harley was not named after the great motorcycle, he is an avid rider and when our Harley isn't running with his Chocolate Lab, Sonny, he is out on the open road. We are thrilled to have Harley with us.
Ed Schwartz comes to Sage with eight years of catering expertise. In addition to high end weddings and receptions, he is well versed in the corporate catering world as well. Ed has an uncanny ability to lead and organize, and every event that he handles is seamless. Ed is an avid Eagles fan, (yes, he has season tickets so be nice to him), and spends every free minute that he can at the Jersey Shore. His four children have all worked in the catering business as well, from middle and high school, and now in college. And a few of them are also on our team. Ed is a tremendous asset to Sage, and he brings a lot to our table.
Joe Montgomery is the newest member of the Sage team. Joe was born in La Cygne Kansas, and moved to Southern California when he was 15. Joe started cooking at the age of 12, and attended the Los Angles Culinary Institute in Encino. Joe began working for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Laguna Niguel in 2002, and transferred with the company in 2007 to Philadelphia. He opened the 10 Arts Restaurant, while also working as a food stylist at QVC.
Joe and his wife, Monica, live in Phoenixville with their two beautiful daughters, Hazel and Jade. “I strive for excellence and look forward to the bright future as Sage Catering grows.” We feel the same way about Joe.
In addition to these people, there are numerous others that make each event that Sage creates a unique and wonderful experience. From our incredible servers, to our talented chefs, and our amazing back of the house people, they are the group that makes each event run like clockwork. We work with an amazing group of people, and we want to thank them all.
